Why we like this farm?

DuBois Farms has received 1K reviews with 4.7 stars on Google, and 50+ of those reviews specifically mention their peaches. .

What we like the most is the wide array of fruits and vegetables offered as a delightful picking experience, accompanied by an assortment of family-friendly activities. At Dubois Farm, guests have the opportunity to hand-pick their own zucchini, squash, apples, peaches, eggplants, and peppers, cabbage etc.

A bit of History

The history of Dubois Farm traces back to two visionary first-generation farmers in the Hudson Valley. Recognizing the declining state of small-scale farming, they embarked on a mission two decades ago to preserve this cherished industry. Seizing the opportunity, they acquired a 54-acre farm that was on the verge of being entirely sold off for development.

With determination, they breathed new life into the land. Orchards and vineyards were replanted, and neglected fruit trees were nurtured back to vitality, specifically focusing on cultivating older, highly sought-after fruit varieties. Additionally, they meticulously constructed outbuildings and animal areas reminiscent of colonial times, creating an enchanting ambiance that transported visitors to the charm of Olde New England in the heart of the Hudson Valley.

Driven by their passion, the duo recently expanded the farm by an additional 15 acres. Fruit trees and strawberry patches were lovingly planted, along with the addition of Christmas trees. Their aspirations reach beyond the traditional harvest season, as they envision extending their operation into December, warmly inviting visitors to share in the joys of the holiday season.

The unwavering commitment of David and Jolee DuBois has enabled the farm to offer a remarkable experience to its customers. They take pride in delivering exceptional quality, quantity, and variety of fruits that are certain to satisfy and delight all who visit. With open arms, they welcome families to partake in the timeless tradition of apple picking and much more at Dubois Farms Pick-Your-Own.

A bit of History

Fishkill Farms was founded in 1913 by Henry Morgenthau Jr., a Cornell University agriculture graduate. Initially a dairy, chicken, and vegetable farm, it eventually shifted its focus to apples, selling thousands of bushels annually by the 1950s.

Henry, alongside manager William Morris, balanced farm operations with a career in public service. His roles included Chairman of the Agricultural Advisory Commission in 1928, Conservation Commissioner in 1930, and Secretary of the Treasury from 1934 until the end of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s presidency.

FDR frequented Fishkill Farms, and in 1942, he was joined by Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Henry’s son Robert served the leaders mint juleps as they discussed war strategies.

Upon Henry’s passing, Robert took over the farm and diversified its operations. The farm opened to the public, allowing customers to pick their own fruit. However, declining profitability led to leasing the orchard to other growers in 1996.

In 2008, Robert and his son Josh reclaimed management, leading the farm’s revival and transitioning to organic practices. They obtained organic certification in 2016, aiming to preserve the farm’s productivity while embracing sustainable practices.

Fishkill Farms remains committed to its founder’s vision, welcoming community support to sustain its dedication to sustainability and local impact.

A bit of History

Over a century ago, Soons Orchards family farm began as a small dairy with a few fruit trees. Back then, direct sales to the public were uncommon. But realizing the farm’s struggle, Art Soons and his wife Sandy embraced retail to thrive.

Despite challenges like loan rejections, Art and Sandy took ownership in the late 1950s. Their vision was clear: provide the best for our customers. Art taught us that customers are everything, shaping our commitment to respect, quality, samples, and appreciation.

Art and Sandy’s innovation shone through. They installed a cutting-edge cider mill and introduced inventions. Fresh vegetables and daily corn harvests became our norm. Grinding nut butters (thanks, Sandy!) and expanding the store kept them evolving. They sourced local food to complement our own.

Now, the 4th generation – Jeff, Laura, and Sharon – has returned, guided by authenticity, quality, and tradition. They’ve planted new trees, introduced pick-your-own apples, and added stairs to hay wagons for pumpkin adventures. Their peach orchard offers a true peach experience. Hard cider, pies, and farm dinners emerged too. Soons Orchard’s incredible crew is family.
