Southern Hill Farms

Why we like this farm?

The farm cover 120 arcs, with 5 acres dedicated solely for peach trees and offers them as a part of their seasonal crops.

Southern Hill Farms grows three varieties of peaches on five acres which are sold as pre-picked and u-pick.

The peach varieties are FlordaGlo, Florida Prince, and Tropic Beauty. FlordaGlo has a white melting flesh with a glowing red fuzz, while Florida Prince peaches are large with firm, yellow, melting flesh.

During different seasons, they also have sunflowers and zinnias in their fields. The farm is open for u-pick during winter and spring and hosts a Fall Festival for visitors in the autumn.

Apart from the peach variety mentioned earlier, we also adore this farm for its other delectable fruits like strawberries and blueberries. The picturesque landscape, charming gift shop, and tempting food trucks serving lip-smacking delights such as blueberry donuts further add to its appeal.

The staff at Southern Hill Farms is friendly and helpful, making the experience even more enjoyable.

A bit of History

In the early 1900s, a man known as Pop Pop began farming tomatoes, potatoes, strawberries, and corn on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

His youngest son, Billy (aka Big Bill), moved to central Florida in the mid-1900s, leased farmland, and turned it into one of the highest-yielding farms of sweet corn, carrots, and radishes.

Unfortunately, the Lake Apopka Restoration Act forced their vegetable farm to close in the late 1900s.

However, the family saw this as an opportunity to start a new farm and in the hills of Clermont, Southern Hill Farms was born.

In 2010, they began planting blueberries, which were solely commercially harvested until 2014, when they opened the farm for their community to enjoy.

Southern Hill Farms has become a destination within Clermont and the Greater Orlando area.

They grow high-quality peaches and blueberries, which are available for U-pick during the season.

The farm offers a place for the community to make memories that last a lifetime, and they strive to provide the freshest and highest quality fruit available.

More to explore other than Peach Picking!

There’s more to Southern Hill Farms than just peach picking. The farm offers rides for all ages, a beautiful sunflower field, and the opportunity to pick and cut your own fresh flowers.

You can pick fresh fruit like strawberries, peaches, and blueberries (when in season), as well as cut your own beautiful flowers.

And let’s not forget about the food trucks! In the past, there were mixed reviews about the food and drink options, but they have improved greatly in recent years.

Now, on weekends you can enjoy delicious desserts, beers, ice cream, donuts, and more.

And for families, there’s a kid zone with rides and activities that the little ones will love. The scenery is beautiful – just make sure to wear comfortable shoes!
